Located in the Western Upper Peninsula of Michigan, Big Powderhorn Lodging is nestled at the base of Big Powderhorn Mountain in the heart of Big Snow Country. Mother Nature blesses the area with an average of 200+ inches of snow annually. The picturesque, serene surroundings and abundance of snow provides for the best skiing in the Midwest. All our vacation homes are located in the Powderhorn village surrounding Big Powderhorn Mountain. A plus to Big Powderhorn Lodging’s location is that there are several more ski resorts within a 10-minute drive: Blackjack Ski Resort & Indianhead Mountain Resort, now part of Big Snow Resorts as well as Mt. Zion Ski Hill at GCC. The Porcupine Mountains Ski Area is located in Ontonagon, MI, about an hour drive from Big Powderhorn Lodging. Whitecap Mountains Resort is located in Upson, Wisconsin, about a 35 minute drive from Big Powderhorn Lodging.

Which mountain is right for you? Why not both? At Big Snow Resort BOTH Indianhead & Blackjack Mountains are included with your lift ticket. One on the morning, one in the evening. One on your first day and the other on your second. It’s up to you. Big Snow even has a shuttle to take you back and forth as you like. Both mountains also offer ski/snowboard rentals & snow sports school.
Mountain Stats: Blackjack Mountain: 26 trails throughout 170 wooded acres, 490 vertical feet, 2 terrain parks, and 6 lifts. Indianhead Mountain: 30 trails throughout 230 wooded acres, 640 vertical feet, 1 terrain park, and 9 lifts. Night Skiing is available on Saturday nights at Indianhead Mtn.
- Yeti Snow Fort: Yeti Snow Fort has fun for all ages! Get lost in our fort, build your own snowman, or tube down our walk-up tubing slide built into the fort! Located at Blackjack.
- Art Classes with Amy: Amy provides guided instruction for Painting Classes for all ages, where no experience needed; just a desire to create art and a mindset for fun. Located at Blackjack.
- Snowshoeing: Big Snow offers guided moonlight snowshoeing on most Saturday nights at 6pm, weather permitting that ends with a bonfire before the music starts in Dudley’s Saloon! Please REGISTER before 2pm on Saturday at 906-229-2239.
Mt. Zion at Gogebic Community College
Mt. Zion is a public ski hill located on Gogebic Community College’s campus in Ironwood, MI. Home to GCC’s nationally acclaimed Ski Area Management program, Mt. Zion offers days-long outdoor entertainment for the entire family. Enjoy picturesque views of Big Snow Country while downhill skiing, cross country skiing, snowboarding, snowtubing or snowshoeing. Mt. Zion Ski Hill also offers ‘learn to ski/snowboard’ programs that are perfect for children and beginners of all ages. Mt. Zion also offers a snowtubing park, free cross country ski trail, quality ski and snowboard rentals, group rates and more!
